Student Body President Position Description

  • SGA Meetings
    • Plan an itinerary and publish beforehand
      • People will plan their evening on how long they think the meeting will last
      • The agenda helps people come in with ideas or add things to talk about
    • Keep the meeting moving
      • Keep the meeting on task and efficient, but also, effective and enjoyable
      • Ask questions and make suggestions to keep people on task
    • Delegate and assign tasks
      • Some people won't volunteer so you need to make sure everyone is helping
  • Events
    • Help plan and execute all SGA events.  Provide vision and direction for events and suggested ideas for change. 
    • Double check and help everyone with tasks
      • Make sure people have what they need and all roles are filled
      • Make a lot of trips to Walmart, facilities, and storage closets because some people will just expect resources to appear magically
    • Put yourself out there and have fun. People will lighten up when they see you having fun
    • Stay flexible and be ready for anything. Keep calm.
  • Student Interactions

      • Be ready to do interviews and explain why SGA does what they do.
    • Tours
      • Tour guides will bring students by the SGA office and ask questions if you are in there.
      • They usually ask about our events or what SGA is.
    • General Population
      • People will ask you a lot of questions about event details
        • A lot of event questions are not even about SGA events so know what is going on campus
      • Know who is in charge of different tasks and groups so that you can connect them with people who have questions
        • I connect people with questions about clubs to the VP of Community Life
      • People love to tell you what you are doing wrong or ask why we don’t do things. Also, need to ask students for feedback and suggests.  Voice any concerns you are consistently hearing from students before the SGA Cabinet
  • Administration
    • Talk with the Student Life office as much as possible
    • Be ready to serve on different committees and go to meetings
    • Make a presentation for the board of trustees
  • Communication
    • Lots of emails and group messages
    • Talk with your team and answer their questions
      • Relay team communications and ideas to student life office and vice versa
    • Talk with the Student Body Presidents from other Nazarene schools
